INCREASE IN CUSTOMS
RETURNS FOR GISBORNE BEER DUTY LOWER Tho Customs returns for Gisborne for] the month of September of this year, the 1 September quarter, and the healf-year reveal a -satisfactory increase in comparison with the figures for the corresponding periods in 1925. Excise duty, o:t the other hand, is lower for all three, periods, although the decrease is a slight, one. In the Customs returns for the month there is an increase o( approximately €2500, and for the quarter the figures are almost £3500 in excess of the last September quarter, while the half-yearly figures show an increase of about £4700. The increases are attributed to tho heavy importation's of spring goods and material® this year. A decrease of £164 is indicated in the hor-r duty returns for September, and for the quarter there is a drop of about £320. In the returns for the half-year tlie decrease is lower in proportion, last year’s figures exceeding those of (lie past half-year by £214. The detailed returns are as follow: CUSTOMS DUTY. 1926 1925.
