Seven laborers employed by the Vacuum Oil I o. were to-day lined £1 ,at.:li for working at their calling on Sunday. ’1 ho defence was that the company was given short notice of tlie arrival of an oil tanker, and had no tune lo apply lor a permit to work on Sunday. The work was necessary to enable the pipes to lie laid across lift* road to the oil tanks. All hough the work was not work on the .snip, and not strictly .speaking a work of necessity, it was pleaded that it was not an ordinary case of violation of the Statute.
