HALF ACRE SOLD
CENTRAL BUSINESS SITE OLD THEATRE PROPERTY The half-acre in Customhouse street on which His Majesty’s theatre used to stand was sold yesterday to Mr. W. F. lb's, the well-known Gisborne coal merchant-. The purchase price is not disclosed, but it is understood that the property was something in the nature of a “snip,’ being- sold well below the Government valuation. The property is one of the largest unoccupied areas suitable for business promises left, in Gisborne. It has a frontage on Customhouse street of 132 ft. and a depth of ,165 ft. The Government valuation is £7O n foot. The deal, which has been under way for some time, was completed yester day, the transact ion being a cash'one. The property belonged to the McFarlane estate, and was bought in the early days for a very small sum. l-'oi a time a dancing school was conducted there by the late Mr. MeFnrlane, but later His Majesty’s theatre was built. Some years ago the theatre was burnt to tin' ground, and since that time the section lias been lying idle.
