A DELAYED LETTER

(Per Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, last night

The N.Z. Metropolitan Trotting Club, in a. statement explaining the nonacceptance of the first payment by T. B. Louison, of Nelson, for Imprint, in the Cup, says that, up till the time of closing, noon on September 16, Mr. Louisson’s registered letter had not been delivered into the iclub’s P.O. box, nor had any notice of the letter from the post office been delivered. The statement concludes: “Under the circumstances the secretary had no option but to refuse to accept payment, (lie letter being delivered to him only at 3.10 on September 16. While the club i rf very sorry for what happened it must be pointed out that the secretary and his assistant did everything it was possible to do to collect the mail, and that, as tlie post office was Mr. Louisson’s agent for making delivery and did not make delivery within time, the fault most lie with him.”
