Marsden, head of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, has entered upon his new duties, and has taken over the charge, as from September 1, of the following branches hitherto attached to other Departments:—Geological branch ol the Alines Department, Meteorological Department, Dominion Laboratory, Hector Observatory, Magnetic Observatory (Christchurch), and the Testing Laboratory of the .Main Highways Board.
