REFERENDA VOTE
RETURNS NOT COMPLETE REJECTION CERTAIN SYDNEY, Sept. 7. The latest returns of the referendum vote give New South Wales a reply of "yes" to both questions with majorities of 89 and 23,215. Queensland has also swung to "yes" on the hvst question with a majority of 7559. Totals for the Commonwealth are: First question, "yes" 1,101,8.20, "no" 1.400,773. Second question, "yes" 1'.()")7,822, "no" 1,443,001. There are further returns to come.
NOT UNDERSTOOD PROPOSAL TOO TECHNICAL (Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association.' LONDON, Sept. 7. The Daily Telegraph, in an editorial, questions whether a national referendum is a sound instrument for the achievement of an amendment of the Constitution proposals, for it is nearly always of a technical or a judicial nature, and is not readily understand-
able by the democratic masses, and is, therefore, apt to be regarded with suspicion.
