FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE NEW PROVISION MADE (Parliamentary Reporter.; WELLINGTON, this day. A clause in the Native Land Wash-ing-up Bilf passed by the House early this morning included power to the Maori Land Board to make advances for improvements,- and carry out the settlement of native lands held in common. ' The Hon. A. T. Ngata, commenting on the matter, asked the House to . ■ understand that all the assistance piven to native fanners was solely out of funds which the Maoris had provided Not one pennv had come from the Crown. It was said that the facib- . ties of thesState Advances Department were available equally to the Maori . ji'hd the pakoha, but since the estnb lishment of the Native Trust Ofiue. the State Advances Department had referred all Maori fanning applicants for loans to the Trustee.
