ANGLING AT TAUPO.

THE MINISTER'S STATEMENT.

PRIMARY OBJECT OF RECENT

NEGOTIATIONS

(Tor Pros;; Association:)

WELLINGTON, this day

The Taupo Anglers' Association recently protested against the proposal said to emanate from the Government to abolish the present short-period licenses, but the Hon. Mr. Bollard says the Government has no such intention. He also referred 1 /to the .statement credited to American visitors that the finest fishing in America, was the sole privilege of the wealthy and that New Zealand was heading in the same direction. This also is erroneous. The primary object of the. negotiations with the natives and others concerned, was to prevent such a state of affairs.

Mr. Bollard added, trial requests had been received to prohibit trolling" within 300 yards of any part of the shores of Lake Taupo, but he could not agret, except possibly at the mouths of streams, especially the Tbnga.riro and. Waitahamti.
