JIEPIiESENTAT 1Y 1£ PPvO(iEAMMP. VISJT TO WAIROA. (Notes by “Left Half.”) The Poverty Bay selectors will shortly be called upon to choose the team of ladies who will proceed to Wairoa to meet the Wairoa representatives, and it is gratifying to be able to record a substantial improvement in the general standard of ladies’ hockey in the Bay. Among the players nominated for special training arc the Misses E. and K, Hci, two of the finest players, in their respective positions, that have ever represented the district. They .have won honors on many fields, in inter-district games as well its in New Zealand championship tournaments, and their presence among Poverty Bay representatives this season will strengthen materially the hope of winning the Lady Carroll Shield, when Poverty Bay challenges for the trophy now held by the Euahino Club, KEENNESS DEVELOPING. In the club, competitions, the displays given have frequently been disappointing, owing largely to the fact that teams have been fielded with less than the required number of players. There is a great deal of keenness developing in connection with the forthcoming exchange of visits with Wairoa, however, and as the season proceeds, the clubs are getting better results' iu the turn-out of their teams. H.S.O.G. are fortunate in securing the Misses Hoi as members, and it is rumored that Miss F. Hill will again take up the game in which for years she has played a leading part, the club should have strong representation in the Poverty Bay team. High School may be expected to contribute to the strength of the representative team, also, and the Manntuke ladies have two or three players who are likely to find places. Among the ladies mentioned bv the selectors as possible tcpresentaiiv< s, there should be no difficulty in linding the material for a representative side of the true Poverty Bay quality. THE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY. Whether this district will be represented at the annual championship tournament, to be held at Invercargill this year, is si ill in doubt. There are many followers of the game who feel that ir is too far to send a team, and that Poverty Bay.should wait until the trophy is won by an Association iurflier north before setting out on the trail. On the other hand, it is pointed out that the presence of the Southland team tif the last tournament, held at Gisborne, was all that prevented the tournament from falling to a low level. If Poverty Bay fails to return the visit the Southland Association will feel, no doubt, that it has not had a fair deal. If Poverty Bay has a team that stands a chance of re-cap-turing the championship, the local Association should endeavor to show the sjime enterprise which borught the Southland team to Gisborne last season. i
