A DANGEROUS DOG.

STRONG PLEA FOR IT’S LIFE

DEBTR COTTON ORDERED. 'Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. An eloquent but quite unavailing plea for the life Vif his dog was made in the Police Court by a defendant, who was charged with being the owner of an animal that was dangerous, and not under proper care and control. The defendant said the dog came to him starving. “If it. had been my enemy’s dog and it had, bitten me f could, not have turned it away,” he said, “and it has much greater significance than might be supposed. My daughter is not strong, and she is very deeply-attached to it. When she is ill tho dog looks quite woebegone and sad. It lies prostrate on the ground, and it seems to cry,” The Magistrate, Mr. Poyntoii: “If it upsets a motor cyclist you will have cause to cry.” Defendant: Yes. Motor cyclists go along the si reel at a .tremendous pace, and they arc a great danger to children. 1 think sometimes this dog is conscious of it. The Magistrate: The dog is ordered io be destroyed and defendant ordered to pay costs. Every day after this that the dog is alive voti are liable to a penalty o f £l. _______
