j W AIROA BRANCH. MEETS. (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. At the meeting of the Wairoa branch of the Farmers’ Union there were present : Messrs. 0. C. Ormerod (president), Ormond, Fowdrell, J’ryde, Polity, Byrnes, Chapman, Tod, Graham, and , Dawson. J Apologies were made for the unavoidable able absence of Messrs. Stokes, Glendining, Hill, Carrol!, and McKenzie. i Mr. Fowdrell reported that lie and Mr. Carroll had the arrangements well in hand?for the farmers’ school. Ho had also collected all the samples he could -secure of the district’s products. The secretary stated that- Mr. Geo. Summerfield had met the Prime Minister, Mr. J. G. Coates, in the north. The secretary said he thought that if the matter was pushed now free railage might he secured for fertilisers.—The president moved to apply to the Minister of Agriculture, pointing out the ! necessity for cheaper fertilisers and free railage for the same, and also lime, from Waikokopu. —The motion, seconded by Mi. T. Byrne, was carried. Some discussion took place on the question of the relative positions of the Sheepowners’ Union and the Farmers’ Union. —lt was decided to ask the Dominion Executive for a ruling. On the motion of Mr. Tod it was decided to apply to the P. and T. Department in connection with the unsatisfactory state of telephonic communication between Nuhaka, More re and Maliia with Wairoa and Gisborne under the new arrangements.
