Further evidence was heard at the Magistrate's Court to-day in connection with the case in which a half-caste -Maori, Krnest Taniwha Sutherland, was charged with attempting to kill his wife: wilfully selling lire to the house of his father-in-law. Richard Drummond; and with assaulting his mother-in-law, Ngaere Hrunimom^ Drummond, continuing his evidence, said that later his wife appeared with hlood streaming from her face. Sutherland also pointed something at witness, and threatened to shoot him. Witness Chased accused, who disappeared finally. All this timo the house was steadily burning, and was soon razed to the ground. The police gave evidence ihai accused admitted placing burning sacks under the building, but denied be intended doing any harm.
Accused pleaded not guilty and re served his defence.
The" bearing is proceeding on the charges of assault ami arson, the charges being beard this afternoon.
