A DUNEDIN PROTEST.
PROPOSAL TO EMPLOY MEN UNDER AWARD RATES. (Per Press Association, t DI'NEDIN. this day. A meeting of the Otago Labor Council condemned the Premier's proposal to employ men under award rate;, stating: "We deny emphatically the right or authority of any official to override the decisions of the Arbitration Court., even under the pretence of relieving distress. Furthermore, we regard as particularly reprehensible the Premier's unconscionable: attempt- to lake advantage of the destitution, which has been rendered more acute by his own disorderly immigration policy, to drive an unjust bargain with innocent-lv helpless unfortunates. We refuse to believe thai thel people ol New Zealand wish to be made partners in a practice of this kind, which can be regarded only as a flagrant abuse of power.'' ________________
