WASHINGTON, April 1:7. The first attempt to picket White House since the famous. Suffragist picketing of Mr. Woodrow Wilson, was made by six ragged children aiding the Now Jersey textile strikers. Accompanied by their parents they.arrived at Mr. Coolidgo's gates bearing banners, on one of which was the statement: "We want to eat, but mothers work at night and our fathers in the daytime. Who can care for us?" Another urged the committee, "See how we live. V
The police prevented them from filtering the grounds with the posters. These were removed, after which the children were permitted a few minutes in the executive ofticcs with the President's secretary, but they did Jiot sec Mr. Coolidge. They stated that the trouble .was a State. matter.
