RENEWAL OF PASTURES.
EXPERIMENTS WITH CLOVER. DEALING WITH PESTS. The renewal of pastures was brought before the Board of Agriculture by Air. A. H. Cockayne, director of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture, who related the result of a series of experimental plots designed to make a comparison of imported or Dutch white clover and that grown in New Zealand. The result showed that New Zealand grown clovers were much superior to that grown from imported seed. The board asked that an article be prepared for the Journal giving a detailed account of the results, and that leaflets be circulated to A. and P. Associations and the Fanners' Onion. Tho proposed draft of the Fertilisers Bill to replace the Act now in operation was considered in detail and approved with minor amendments. It was suggested that the proposals should later be, discussed with farmers' organisations. The board decided to recommend that the Babbit Nuisance Act be again consolidated, and approved of proposals for the amendment of certain provisions of tho Act relating to tho establishment and working of boards under part 111., which relates to the establishment of rabbit •boards in reduced areas. Departmental officers gave members or the board full information in connection with tho present position as regards the treatment of contagious mammitis, and the progress which had been made in connection with experiments directed at obtaining a more effective method of dealing with blackberry, The dehorning of cattle question was further considered, and the board decided to report to the Minister that the time had arrived when a bill should be brought in to make it compulsory except in the case of stud and pedigree cattle.
