ST. JOHN’S, TE KARAKA.
ANNUAL MEETING. (Te Karaka Correspondent.) The annual meeting of parishioners of St. John’s Church', To Karaka, was held last night. There was a large attendance, including a number from outlying parts of tile parish, and great interest was -taken in the proceedings. i The Vicar read his annual report, which showed that services had been instituted in all parts of the district, Sunday schools established at Kaitaratahi and Whatatutu, and that religious ininstruction was again being given in the primary school. The financial report showed a fairly healthy position, the overdraft being £143, after paying for the parish car, and renovations at the Vicarage. The gratitude, of the vestry is due to a Hawke’s Bay churchman, who guaranteed the bank overdraft to enable the car. lo be paid for immediately. The. same gentleman also donated the amount of tlie bank interest for the first year. The Vicar announced that he had again appointed Mr. J. G. Appleton as Bishop’s warden in place of the late Mr; T. H. Jackson, whose sudden death was deeply deplored by the whole parish. Mr. L. H. L. Maclean was re-appoint-ed people’s warded, and the following seven jnembers were elected to the vestry : Messrs. C. H. Bridge, E. Hambling, T. Pickett, E. W. Bousfield, It. Dymock, Stone, and H. Dobson. Mr. E. W. Bousfield was elected Synodsman, and Mr. F. < J. Leggett hon. auditor. Votes of thanks, were accorded all those who had helped to carry on the work of the parish. The Vicar referred particularly to the work of Mr. L. H. Maclean, who, during,the time when the parish was without an incumbent, had kept up the weekly services in the parish church. At the conclusion of the business part of the meeting the members of the Ladies’ Guild handed round refreshments, which were thoroughly enjoyed, whilst those present took the opportunity to ’discuss parish affairs in an informal and sociable manner,
