The mortal remains of the late Miss Marjorie Sandilands were laid .to rest in the Wairoa cemetery on Wednesday, the Rev. W. R. Milne officiating. Among a large number of wreaths sent in were several from the teachers and pupils of the Wairoa district high school, and a striking one from Richardson's, Ltd., on the staff of which company Mr. Sandilands was once engaged.

Dr. Mcllwraith, of the Education Department, is daily expected to visit Wairoa, in connection with tho demand for a permanent high school building here. Messrs.' H. J 5. Glendinnintr, W. J. .Hill, G. H. Tod, M. IV Chapman. T. L. Powdrell, and A. G. Dawson have been asked by .the Wairoa branch of the Farmers' Union ,to contest the country seats on the Hospital Board. It is reported that Mr. C. Brownlee, the noted ' All Black ; footballer, has bought a property at Whakalci and will be settling- there. . 'ln aid, of the coming fancy, fair iit connection with St. Andrew's Church' a so'cial was given on Monday night by the men of the<congregation, the admission to which:was by means of a toy'for,one of the stalls..
