The Chambers of Commerce conference passed, remits appreciative of tho new spirit of public service displayed by the Railway Department, particularly the commercial section ; and also urged the Denartment to eixpc.rinuvit with o night train service between Christchurch and Dunedin during tho exhibition. Tho conference) rejected a remit, asking that the differing rates between imported goods and New Zealand produce transported over the railways be abolished without any penalty being imposed hy an import duty
