SOLDIERS’ RE-UNION.

* I ■TO-NIGHT’S FUNCTION. ; Preparations for the inaugural re-union | of soldiers and sailors who served over- | seas were being finalised this afternoon, j and indicated by their extensiveness an anticipation of a very large attendance; The Assembly Hall floor was almost wholly occupied with tables and forms, and refreshments were being accumulated for at least 400 men. The re union will take place this evening, and overseas men will have an Opportunity of renewing old associations and of bridging the gn,ps the years have created between friends of trench days and nights. A good musical programme has been arranged, the Harriers’ Club orchestra having tendered' its services gratis, while a number of other local amateur entertainers will contribute items. Mr. K. S. Williams, M.P., has intimated that he will attend, while Sir James Carroll, M.L.0., whose health will not permit of iris participation in llie festivities, has expressed the hope that the re-uhion will prove as successful as it deserves -to lie. Sir James’ absence wilt be greatly regretted, for. having himself been in the trenches with the New Zealand troops, the veteran legislator is looked upon with personal affection by the whole body of returned men as one of themselves. Sir James and .Mi'. K. S. Williams were the only official exceptions made to the rule that admission be limited to men who had served with the troops overseas. A large number of well-known military figures have made arrangements to be present.
