HEAVY DAMAGE.

BIG AUCKLAND FIRE. (Per Pres* Association.! AUCKLAND, this day. A lire occurred last night on the premises of Alex. Harvey and Sons, manufacturers of dairy utensils. Albert street. The first and second floors contained plant valued at about £20.000, hut the bulk of the damage was on the third and fourth floors. Considerable damage was also done by water to the offices and showroom, where valuable, machinery used for printing labels and devices on tin were saturated by water. Probably much damage will have been done to the large stock of tin plates. When the brigade arrived the centre portion of the top floor was well alight. The fire ran through the lift well in the centre of the building, mounting to the ventilating gable, which burned fiercely. The brigade made a very creditable save from a total loss. No estimate of the lews is yet available. The insurance on the buildings and plant is £40.000, (lie policy being held with the British Traders’ Insurance Company.
