FIRE ENGINE IN BOAT.
MIDNIGHT SAIL TO BLAZING TOWN. PARIS, Sept. 10.—Reggio di Calabria, the Italian town opposite Messina, Sicily, which was rebuilt after the earthquake of lfill, lias been almost destroyed by lira which, according to messages from Romo, broke out ill the town ball.
Th e local fire brigade, assisted by all the inhabitants, fought the flames desperately, but the water supply proved inadequate and, fanned by a strong wind, the flames rapidly enveloped the greater part of the town. . Telephone messages wore sent to Messina, and the fire brigade there embarked their engines in fishing boats end* crossed tile straits—a distance of about eight miles—at midnight. Firemen and civilians continued their efforts to keep the fire within certain limits tliroifghout the night, and at noon to-day they had tlio flames under control.
