AUCKLAND, Thursday. A surprising development has taken place in the potato market, the Maunganui last Friday having loaded potatoes at, Auckland for Sydney. Wet and cold weather on the other side is keeping back the output of the new crop, and old potatoes are at such a high price as to attract supplies from any port in New Zealand Where a vessel is loading. This has left the local market very poorly supplied, and the Wingnhu has not brought more than can be used at once. This points to a bare market till the Ivatoa arrives next week, and the price is firm at £ll His, ex store, a price which is not on a parity with the advanced level in the south. New potatoes -arc arriving ill very small quantities, and a quotation at 24s in Pukekohe this week is not low enough to divert much of tho trade, so that the demand is barely affected, except to causo distributors to work on as small stocks as possible. Seed potatoes are rvilun quiet, and a wed: of fine weather is really waiue.i to induce much planting.
