RECORD TRIP.

AUCKLAND TO GISBORNE. TRAVELLING TIME OF 16 HOURS. What is claimed as a record trip from Auckland to Gisborne was made during tho week-end by Mr. Bailey, manager of the motor department of John Burns and Co., Ltd., Auckland. Tho journey was made in the latest model Paige car, and in addition to the driver there were two passengers, Miss A. Burns (Auckland), and Miss E. (hulduin, of Gisborne.

Speaking to-day regarding the trip, Mr. Bailey said that he had never really pushed the car and that when they arrived in Gisborne they were not at all tired with the travelling. The party left Auckland at 9 o’clock on Saturday morning, accomplishing the trip to Hamilton in hours. They proceeded to Rotorua on Saturday afternoon, and stopped there for the evening, the actual travelling time from Auckland to Rotorua being six hours. The trip from Rotorua to Gisborne, which was made yesterday, took ten hours, tho roads being fnii'lyi good. Mr. Bailev said that tho worst stretch was in the vicinity of Matawai. Close to the township the car became stuck in a deep mudholc and chains had to be pm on in oi'drv that the wheels would grip. The Otoko hill presented no difficulties, the sufracc being good. The party left Rotorua at 6 a.m., had breakfast at To Toko, lunch at Opotiki, and arrived in Gisbornci at 4 p.m. The car which established such a creditable record is a Paige, one of the latest models, and in every way a most luxurious motor. Mr. Bailey, speaking of its capabilities, said that as a fully qualified first-class engineer he was satisfied that it was the best car ho had ever driven. It was a five-passenger sports n.odel an.l could, he said, do 80 miles an hour with ease. '

The car is indeed a beautiful model, and is replete with- every possible motoring convenience. Although the run was the first made by, that particular car, Ilia engine went- perfectly throughout, rot being the least bit overtaxed. 'Hie Paige, it is declared, bonded tho.list, of sales amongst, the high-priced American ears last year, and its name is a byword for absolute efficiency combined with the maximum of comfort. Having a wheel base of 132 inches, it is exceptionally roomy. One feature of the Paige car is that prior to its leaving the works in America it is inspected and tested on several different occasions. The result is apuarent when a trip such as the pre sent is undertaken, for although unused, the engine is in perfect running order, and the care necessary with the majority of engines when new, is unnecessary in the case of this car. The car which accomplished the journey in such excellent tune will bo used during tho week for demonstrating purposes, and those desirious of inspecting the Paige should arrange with Redstones Motors for a trial spin.*
