Many Wills, the negro* challenger for Dempsey’s title, knocked out Charley Weinert in the second round of a scheduled fifteen-round fight. Wills outclassed Weinert from the first hell, and the latter was finally felled by a right upper cut.. Previously Wills sank several mighty blacksmith slams wrist deep in Weinert’s middle, taking the breath out of Weinert, and making him gasp so violently that he could be heard ten rows from the ringside. Weinert was greatly distressed after the knock-out, and was carried to 'Wills’ corner, where the seconds of both men worked over him. Wills, although warned before the light against the practice 'of hugging his man close with the left and pounding him oil the kidneys, soon had recourse to bis violent, painful punch, whereat Weinert screamed for the referee, and the crowd hooted. Weinert was slugged outright during the first round, and badly punished throughout., Wills occasionally hitting low, though warned. Harry Greb retained the middleweight championship, defeating-Mickey Walker, welter-weight champion, in a fifteen-round fight, during which fortunes varied, but Grab, held the, upper hand.' Greb had Walker half unconscious on the ropes in the fourteenth round, and would have put. 'him out, but was too excited to deliver the finishing blow. The Greb-Walker bout was the most thrilling since Dempsey and Firpo fought at the same park two years ago. Grcb was the aggressor for the major part of the way. There were no knockdowns. NEW YORK. July 3. Joe Lynch and Jack Sharkey fought a draw, and Dave Shade knocked out Jimmy Slattery in the preliminaries.
