WIRELESS BEACONS.
The Minister of Marine, who defended the new regulations for the equipment of small steamer’s with wireless, told the House to-night that they would have applied to a, steamer of the class of the Ripple, which was lost off the New Zealand coast last year. He assured members that tho demonstration in Auckland! of a wireless beacon had droved completely satisfactory to shipping men who witnessed it, and the first beacon would be placed oil Tifiirn, Auckland. 'Wifeless beacons would also be installed at Wellington ahd Lytteltbn to enable the ferry steamers to enter these harbors during a fog. s lt would entail the placing of direction-finders on these boats, but lie had never found the tjnion Company refuse to provide up-to-date equipment. He believed the Aorangi was already equipped with wireless difectioii-finders. j
