LYONS GETS NINE MONTHS’ GAOL. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. A charge against Noel Lyons, the young Australian seaman, of failing to obey an order of deportation issued by tho Attorney-General on May 26 last, was heard in the'.Magistrate’s Court this afternoon. The rear of the Court was crowded, the majority of the onlookers being watorsiders and seafaring men. The prosiner pleaded guilty. The Magistrate said: “You appear to have made up your mind to bout the order, which is the working of the law. No Court can .stand for that sort of thing. You have one appeal, and that is to the Legislature. That is the only way in which, you can the Act repealed. The only person who can upset the order is the Attorney-General himself. I consider no Court, has powers to over-ride that power. I regret you do not accept the opportunity of acting in compliance with it. 1 have one duty to perform, and 1 must do it. Y’ou know what the consequences are. Are you prepared to use the opportunity if given to you now?’’ Lyons: “I think that it is Only drawing the matter out. I considered it long ago.’’ The Magistrate: Very good; you will be convicted and sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment wii'h hard labor.
