Tho players were frequently delayed for lengthy intervals while the spectators were shepherded off the course. MacDonald-Smith began, accompanied by five thousand, and returned with a following of ten thousand, resembling a marching army, in which worried officials carried standards. Several spectators were hit by flying balls, and clogs were a very great nuisance.
