AUCKLAND, this day. i A Star reporter whrf travelled to Hamilton by a large car on Sunday and re- . turnied this morning by the Limited .• Express, states that large areas are - flooded on the lower-reaches of the Wai- •: kato. • ' i Round Mercer and Rangiriri districts the water was still rising, and extended jt> for miles upon miles. - Between Mercer and Ohinewai, and | from Ohinewai to the main river the wafer swept across the metalled road,
causing much damage. As the Limited passed from Taupiri t JPto Auckland he observed great areas of / 'country covered by water, with only the -* tops of the fences visible. > . u \ Tlie sheep and other stock, had been t moved to higher land. " The same conditions prevailed whon approaching Ohinewai; particularly on the low country in the vicinity of , Tekauwhata.
At Mercer miles on miles of country Were inundated, only the railway yards apd high portions of the township being free from flooding. .
