At the .Supremo Court, Mr Justice Reed, in an action arising out of the bankruptcy of Joseph Clarkson, grocer, of Northcote, ordered a refund by bankrupt’s two sons of £SO and £75 respectively. being improper payments during insolvency. The father’s liabilities* were £lB3, assets £33, deficiency £l5O. The sons’ defence was that the money received by them was a refund of loans. ' WELLINGTON, this day.

To-day Mr D, G. Clark, Commissioner of Stamp Duties and Secretary of Lands and Deeds, who is retiring on superannuation, was farewellcd by officers of the Stamp Duties and Land and Deeds Department,' and presented with handsome gifts.' The Hon. W. Nosworthy and Mr Verschaffert were the principal speakers. Both spoke very highly of the services rendered to the State by Mr Clark. ■ A visit by a team of American athlgtcs to New Zealand next summer is practically a certainty. Negotiations are well forward, and present indications are "that three world champions will be included—J. V. Schole, M. M. Osborne, and Glenn Hartfrant.
