MURDEROUS ATTACK.
MYSTERIOUS CRIME. MAN'S HEAD BATTERED IN HEART OP CITY. A TYPIST'S DISCOVERY. (Australian and N.Z. Oab’e Association.) LONDON, Feb. 28. A mysterious crime was discovered in the heart of the city by a girl | typist returning from luncheon. She found her employer's office door locked, and heard groans. When the room was entered, the employer. Air. Ekislcr, a well-to-do Armenian, was seen lying with his head battered, and signs of a desperate struggle. He could only mutter, “Have they got him?" before he become unconscious. Ho was taken to hospital. A strange feature of the crime is that the telephone in the office was cut close to the. receiver. The key of the door was lying in the outside passage. There were no signs of robbery. It is stated that Ekisler, who is understood to be the ngent. for the Paris Bon Marche, lived with his wife and son at Wes (bourne Parade, Paddington, and often, complained of I demands for money by a man whose name is known to the police. LONDON, Feb. 28. Early this morning the police, with a magistrate and the injured man's wife, were still at his bedside, after a four hours' vigil, waiting to take his dying depositions. Four/times he made signs of statement /and then lapsed into unconsciousness. The office is on the third lloor of a I huge block in Great Winchester street, i Miss Porter states that Ekisler was lying clutching an overturned chair, his spectacles being smashed and a blood-stained poker near-by. j LONDON, March 1. I Ekisler is still in a critical state. Early this morning the doctors and i police were still waiting for a conscious interlude to get a statement. Tlie police believe Ekisler was the victim oT a Frenchman, who recently sent him threatening letters, which the Frenchman was anxious to regain, i It is significant that, Ekisler's clothing was disarranged, as if some one d;ad searched his pockets. Certainly robbery was im|, the motive, as Ekisler’s watch and chain were lying on his overcoat and his wallet, was on the lloor.
