Scholium 22) and G.H.S. 5 for 50 (Ellis not out 19 and Schwabe not out 8). * On the second day’s play G.H.S. continued their first innings, the “not out’’ men opening to the bowling of Carter and Scholium. Both played steady cricket, sooring slowly. Both bowlers were bowling well, and finally EJiis played Scholium on. He had played a useful innings for 38. McLachian partnered Schwabe, but was caught and . bowled, by Carter after one had been added to the total—7—76 —0. Carson and Schwabe played steadily, but the former was bowled by Lockett, who had relieved Scholium—B—B4—2. Cato arrived only to see Schwabe sky one from Carter to Thomson—9—B4—l9. Martin was last man and he survived a few balls ‘ and then Carter bowled him—10—84—0. The bowling honors fell to Scholium 5 for 50, Carter 4 for 23, and Lockett 1 for 8. City with a lead of 53 commenced their second innings with B. Scholium and Wilson opening to the bowling of Caulton and Robertson. With the total at 3 Scholium was “yorked” by Robertson—l—3—2. Lockett partnered Wilson, and the score increased to 16, when the veteran wicket-keeper Ellis caught Wilson, off Robertson—2—l6—9. Thomson was next and he scored with wellplacecl shots off both bowlers. Both he and Lockett played steadily until Lockett in attempting to pull Robertson gave that bowler his third wicket — 3 25—10. Dow was next, but succpmbed to an easy catch in the slips—--4 —O. This was Robertson’s fourth wicket, and his figures read 4 for 12 at this stage. Winter and Thomson 'played steadily, taking tho score to 44, when Winter was bowled off his pads by Langhorne’s initial ball—s—44—7. Matthews was given out 1.b.w., this decision being greeted unfavorably by the City supporters—6—44—o. With the advent of Jock Scholium play livened up, and he and Thomson put on 19 for the seventh wicket when the former went l.b.w to Robertson —7—63—18. R. Scholium was next, but Thomson was bowled by Langhorne without any addition to the score—B—63—l3. Carter partnered Scholium, but the latter was run out without having scored —9 —63—0. The innings closed for this number, leaving G.H.S. 117 to get in an hour and five minutes to secure a 3-point win. . G.H.S. opened their second innings with Langhorne and Roberts to the bowling of Scholium and Lockett.' Langborne Survived two appeals for legbefore off Scholium, With the score at 16 -Roberts, who was uneasy, hit one back to Lockett — I—l1—16—1. Caulton and Langhorne played good cricket and scored steadily. When he had scored 6 Caulton was clean bowled by Scholium—2—3s—6. McLachian and Laughorne added two to the total when Langhorne was bowled by Lockett — 3—37—22. Robertson and McLachian scored steadily, but the latter unfortunately pulled one from Scholium to his wicket—4—4s—B. Schwabe partnered Robertson and both scored slowly. Finally Robertson was clean bowled by Scholium for ten—s—s8—10.' Ellis arrived and played steadily, but a few balls later Lockett bowled Schwabe—--6 Thomson was next, but was run out from a smart return by Carter—--7 —l. Carson came next, but was caught by Robertson, who was fielding as sub., off Lockett—B—6l—o. With only two wickets to go and 56 to get U.H.S.’s chances of winning were few, but by dint of careful playing Ellis and Gato brought the score to 101 for nine, when Cata was bowled by Lockett—--9—lol—lo. He had played a useful innings and had held his end up while . Ellis scored. Martin, the last man, j partnered Ellis in .a bold attempt to get the required 16 runs in less than ten minutes. Ellis played well, and Martin, despite the strain upon him, held his end up excellently. Excitement was tense. In the last over 10 were required to win, when by a smart return Martin was nearly run out. On . the sixth bowl of the last over Ellis skied one to Lockett, who took a good catch', which won the match for City, and incidentally ensures their winning the senior cup for this season.
