WAS HE THERE?
REPLY TO THE MINISTER. (Per Press Association.) WELL! NGTON, last night. The Minister of Railways states that, as a result of statements which appeared in the daily press to the effect flint Mr. M. J. Mack was present at the annual meeting of the Alliance of Labor, representing the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servant's, a communication was addressed to the General Secretary of the Society, asking whether the report nils correct. A reply lists been* received intimating that tile Society's attitude'is correctly explained in its letter of May 16 last, and' that the Society could not accept any responsibility for any newspaper report which would appear to convey a different impression. The letter referred to stated that the executive had taken action to cancel it's affiliation with the Alliance of Labor, and also undertook that it would not again affiliate during its term of office. The same executive was in office when the ‘annual meeting of the Alliance was held last month. The Society was advised in reply to its letter that, so far as 1 lie Government is concerned, it would not countenance any departure ,from the dolihito terms under which recognition is accorded the Society. In the event of the Society again contravening the agreement by affiliating Willi any outside organisation, tlm Government would withdraw its recognition of the Society.
