TWO BRITISH POLICE TAKE 3000 CHINESE.
SHANGHAI, Jan. 15.—Two British policemen have persuaded 5000 beaten Chinese Government troops camping near the foreign settlement to surrender. The policemen marched into the French concession leading the soldiers fully armed, dragging thirty machine guns and twelve field guns. They occupied the internment camps which now have a total of 11,000 prisoners. The son of Chang Tso Lin has arrived in Nakin to assist General Lu in preparing his advance on Shanghai.! jSun Chuan Fang, the Chekiang war lord, has withdrawn his support from General Chi Shieh Yuan, leaving the latter occupying the Shanghai area unaided. Chi continues his preparations for battle, but developments make any extensive resistance improbable. Tlie entire 1.1,000 will be sent to Tsingtau, according to plans being perfected by commercial and consular authorities here. The authorities arc attempting to charter three steamers to move tho interned soldiers. Danger of disease developing in tho foreign settlements are a. result of the congestion has resulted in a demand for quick removal action.
