INFANT’S DEATH.
STRANGE CASE AT RUATOREA. POLICE INVESTIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES. Inspector Hutton received word yesterday afternoon of the death of a newly-born child at Ruatorea under rather unusual circumstances, and Detective McLeod has proceeded to the Coast to investigate! The information received by the local police is to Iho effect that a woman went, to the hotel at. Ruatorea in February 24. Yesterday she was found in bed in her room, and it was discovered that she had given birth to a child. When the woman was found the baby was dead, its umbilical cord having been severed. A post-mortem examination was conducted by Dr. Davies, of Waipiro Bay, and this disclosed that the child had breathed. An inquest was opened and .then adjourned until March 2.
