WAIROA NOTES.

Mr A. G. Smith, County Engineer, left <m Friday on Ins annual leave, and is taking it at Christchurch in order lo attend the conference, of, civil engineers in that city. Leave of absence was granted at Friday’s meeting of the County Council Lo Cr. P. ii. bummerlield on urgent pri vate business. The funeral of the late William McTavisli took place on Thursday afternoon at the Wairoa cemetery, the Rev. Mr Porter reading the burial service. The County revenue for the month was £7694 4s 2d, including rates £4695 Us Bd, subsidy on rates £IBO9, thirds and fourths £lsl 12s 2d, refunds £862 10s 4d. At- the County Council a total of £SL4B 15s 2d was advised as having been passed to credit, including subsidy, Ruakituri loan, thirds and fourths, and Wairoa-Uisobrne via Hangaroa road. Messrs E. Lane and R. E. Barton waited on tho County Council on Friday in conjunction with Air W. Clarke, metal contractor, to obtain consent to the latter going on at, once with the Kiwi road metalling, the latter agreeing lo stand out of the principal moneys I ill the .Slate Advances Office granted the loan, and the settlers concerned agreeing to pay the interest thereon. Both gentlemen fully set out the hardships they were enduring, and eventually it was decided that on the execution of a proper indemnification the Council would endeavor to raise the money through the Public Trustee, and put the work in hand at once in the terms of Mr Clark’s offer.

Air .J. Al. Swain, Health Inspector for the County, again presented a- dean bill of health. He reports that the public are observing very well the prohibitions of congregating, and everything was being done to ensure the freedom of the district from infantile paralysis.
