MELBOURNE Dee. 31.—A householder at Caulfield ,bad a startling experience with, (burglars’ during the .weekend and when one of the intruders fired at him he dodged, the bullet striking the second burglar. Returning to his home in Caulfield at 6.30 p.m. ori Saturday Mr. IT. Kuhn noticed that one of (he bedroom windows was broken. He reconnoitred the place, and. hearing sounds inside, entered through,’ the window which had been opened. As ho stepped dhwn a. man advanced menacingly from the corner of the room towards the householder. Mr. Kuhn did not call, for help, deciding to teach the intruder a lesson. Blit when they closed his adversary called out, “Ernie, Ernie,” and a seco id mail entered fropi another part of the house. Burglar No. 2. or “Ernie,” carried a revolver, and seeing that Kuhn was giving his mate some trouble, Ernie fired a shot. By that time Kuhn had thrown the first man, and the shot apparently for he jumped up and rushed out of the back door. Kuhn was thoroughly aroused, and lie made a move to" give chase when the second burglar stepped in his path, and, menacing him 'with the revolver, said, “Don’t, move. I have shot my mate, ami I ought to shoot you, 100. If you move T will.” Realising that discretion was the bettor part of valor Kuhn took the hint and kept still until he heard the back door slam after the man with the revolver. Then In* walked into the bathroom, bathing his head where he had been struck during,the struggle with the burglar who was shot. The police .were informed, and they found blood spattered on the .walls and carpet, leading to tho Wick door, indicating that the wound: suffered by the first, man must have hied freely. A. line and cry was .raised and the search \yas strict, but the police were unable to find anyone. The burglars got nothing, though they had already disturbed four rooms, apparently in a search for money.
