FIRE AT MANUTUKE.
HOUSE COMPLFTELY DESTROYED
Another lire occurred in the Manui.uko district yesterday, when a six-roomed house owned by Mrs. T. llalhert, of 'Makuraka, and occupied by Mr. J. Beale, was completely destroyed. The. fire was first noticed between 1 and 2 a.m., and fanned! by a light, breeze it swept everything before it. When the occupants awoke the lire had obtained a fairly strong hold! on the back, portion of the premises, and they were unable to save many of the effects. They were successful, however, in saving a. small amount of furniture and a number of valuable ornaments. Imt the lire spread rapidly, completely gutting the house. It, i« believed that Hie lire originated through a. defective kitchen chimney. A lire had been burning in the kitchen all day, and a. small lire was left going when Mr. Beale and family retired for the evening. A small hole was discovered in the chimney, arid it is considered that some embers must have been blown on to (lu> lining of the house. The huihkug was insured for £3OO with the National Insurance Company, whi.e the fm nil lire was covered by a policy of £2OO with I lie Liverpool, Loiir-im, nnn Globe ollice.
