GISBORNE-NGATAPA LINE.
OPENING OF NEW SE.RVIGI
The Ngatapa railway section is being taken over the Railway Department on Monday next from the Public Works Department. A train service will be run between Gisborne and Ngatapa on Mondays, Wednesdays and. Saturdays, particulars of which are advertised in this issue.
The Ngatapa line was originally intended as a section of the Oisb'orne- ; Nil pier railway, hut in view of tbs. adoption of the coastal route by the Hon. J. G. C’ontes this session, it has been abandoned as a link of the East Coast- trunk line. Authorised away back in 1910 construction work on the Ngatapa line was commenced in February. 1912, the distance from Makarara junction to Ngatapa being 11 miles With the abandoning of the Hangaroa route, it has been reduced' merely to a short branch line.
'Hie Ngatapa, train service will be despatched from Gisborne, and not Makaraka as formerly, the distance being 15 miles. The morning train for Ngapata will leave Gisborne at 8.50 a.m., and the afternoon train on Mondays and Wednesdays at 3.10 p.m.. and on Saturdays at 4.25 p.m. The fares ar.e : First-single 2s Bd, return 5s 3d; second-single Is lid, return 3s 3d.
