EMPIRE CONSULTATIONS.

MR MASSEY’S SUGGESTION ENDORSED.

(Received Dec. 10, 11 a.m.)

MELBOURNE, Dee. 10. •Referring to Mr Massey’s recent statement- wherein lie expressed agreement with tjie views of Colonel Amery that if Britain expected overseas Ministers to make periodical visits to London in, order to consult, British’ Ministers, the latter should be equally prepared 'to make the journey overseas and hold a conference in various parts of the Empire. Mr Bruce said he cordially welcomed not only Colonel Araery.’s suggestion, but Mr Massey’s endorsement. He entirely agreed with the opinion that there was urgent necessity for some arrangement being made whereby more frequent conferences should be held by representatives of the self-governing portions of the Empire without it being compulsory for -the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand to travel to London. If arrangements could be made for holding a conference in different part® of the Empire it would be quite possible to have more frequent consultations' than were found practical in the past. He welcomed the suggestion for periodical visits of British Ministers, as it was only bv doing so that British statesmen could hope to obtain first-hand information on problems which confronted the different parts of the Empire.
