WAIKAREMOANA WORKS.
Mr. F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief, writes to the Napier Telegraph concerning the ease of Wnikareinoana, and states: “The position is still exactly as it was when Mr. Parry reported, and the method of development outlined by him lias not been modified. Since .ill the power which can be made available at Mangahao is taken tip. the district north-east- and north-west of Palmerston must lie supplied from another source. Until, however, the power available :s fully utilised, it is more economical to supply Hawke's Bay arid Wanganui districts by means of transmission lines jffom Mangahao than by building further generating stations and still more transmission liriei. The transmission lines now being built to Napier are really an advance part of the Wnikaremoann system, and as soon -as the Mangahao system becomes overloaded, the necessary link to Waiknreinontin can be put in. Until such overload is in sight, the building of such link, and a new power station, are only unnecessary extravagances.”
