LORD AND LADY JELLICOE.

FAREWELL VISITS

INCLUSION OF GISBORNE?

Although no official notification has yet been received, it- appears that Gisborne is going to be honored with a farewell visit from our popular Governor and Lady Jcllicoe.

The, Mayor of Napier (Mr. J. B. Andrews) and the Mayor of Hastings (Mr. G. Maddison) have both 'received communications, advising them that their Excellencies wjll be visiting the Hawke’s Bay district.

According to the letters received by those gentlemen, their Excellencies, who will be assompanied by the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe, will arrive in Hawke’s Bay overland from Gisborne on August 24, and will remain there for three days.

It may he that the official notice of the visit to Gisborne has been somewhat delayed, but if the communications are accurate, it appears that, after all, Gisborne will be given an opportunity of farewelling the most popular Governor New Zealand has ever had.

Some little time ago endeavors were made by the Borough Council to obtain a visit from their Excellencies, but they had so many engagements that it appeared impossible for them to accede to the request. The Gisborne Savage Club, of which Lord Jellicoe is a life rangatira, also made representations regarding a visit.

The public of Gisborne will certainly hope tliat the information received in Hawke's Bay will mean that an official visit will be paid by their Excellencies.
