(Per Press Association.} CHRISTCHURCH, last night. At Addington market the yardings were heavy in both the fat cattle and fat sheep 'classes. Cattle improved in value, meeting with a iirm sale throughout, out the mutton market was irregular, though it concluded firmly. Store sheep: There was an unusually large entry for this time of the year. It included about ICCO ewes from the North Island. The market flagged for old ewes, which were forward in large numbers, Wethers were also easier, but ewe hoggets sold firmly. A. draft of 355 North Island ewes made 40s. The first ewes and lambs of the year were forward, and sold at 14s lOd, all counted. They were. a. poor lot. In the opening stages there was a weakening of up to 2s per head, but this was recovered in the later stages, particularly for ewes. Over the whole of the sale, however, values were easier than last week. Extra prime wethers made up to 30s; a few special pens sold to 60s; prime wethers realised 41s 6d to 475; medium 38s to 41s; light 33s to 37s 6d ; extra prime ewes to 41s; a few special pens 44s to 45s 9d ; prime ewes 35s to 38s; medium 31s 6d to 34s 6d ; light, 28s to 31s; old 25s to 27s 6d; prime hoggets 32s to 40s 111; medium 26s to 31s 6d. Fat call In: 505 were yarded, making 21C0 for the month. Included in the entry were 178 North Island cattle, mostly prime lines. The market opened firmly, and good cattle made from 2Cs to 3Cs per head more than last week. Extra prime beef sold at 37s 6d per 100 11>; prime 33s to 365; medium 29s 6d to 32s 6d; light and, unfinished 26s to 295; and rough 17s 6d to 22s 6d. At Westfield, beef _ was in average numbers at late quotations. Extra choice and prime 24s to 275; plain and unfinished 19s to 235; rough beef 10s to 15s; prime young cow and heifer 21s to 255; other cow 16s to 20s.
