CURRENCY RESTRICTION.
MAY AFFECT AUSTRALIAN WOOL EXPORT. (Received July 31, 1 p.m.) MELBOURNE,-July 31. An official statement on behalf of the Associated Bank of Victoria, says: Wool valued at sixty millions sterling is in danger of lying idle in Australia if the representations of the bankers to , the Commonwealth Notes Board is unsuccessful.
A bank official states that the trouble, is the country’s requirements have increased enormously, while currency has not increased in proportion. During the last two years deposits increased by over thirty millions sterling, yet the banks actually were working on less currency.
