Mr. Williams and a friend were standing on the carriage platform, as the/' train was approaching Bakaurea'. His companion, remarking that it was getting chilly, went inside the carriage, bub Mr. Williams remained on the platform. When the train pulled into Rakauroa, about 7.30 p.m., Mr. Williams, was not missed. At twenty minutes past- 8 two boys, who were riding along, the road beneath the viaduct, noticed the body of a man, which on investigation proved to be Mr. Williams, He'was taken to Mr. Haikett’s store, where it was found that bo-tli legs were broken and that, he had received injuries to his/back. 1 Arrangements were made to bring Dr. Bowie out in a special train from town, but at twenty minutes past 10 Mr. Wit-’ liams died, and the tram was cancelled.

No one on the train saw the unfortunate man fall from the platform, and all were unaware that an accident had occurred. There is a dip in the line close to the scene of the occurrence, and it is thought that the jerk of the train must have thrown Mr. Williams, out.

The late Mr, Williams was a wellknown sheapfarmer in the Rakauroa. district, his farm being some eight miles from the township. Prior to taking up farming he was in business in Gisborne, in partnership, with Mr. Murray. Ho was a married man, 43 years of age, with a family, of four daughters. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Williams, of Riverside read. Deep sympathy is felt for those bereaved. The deceased’s wife had been on a visit, to friends in Hastings. An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the accident, will be held in Gisborne to-morrow.
