RAILWAY SERVICE.
LIST OP COUNTER-CLAIMS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Railway Department has prepared A number of counter-claims for presentation to the Board of Enquiry, of which the following is a summary : Elimination of payment of special rates for night work in (he traffic branch, which does not come within overtime hours. Elimination of provision for rate and a-half payment to maintenance men between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Ordinary time worked in locomotive workshops between 9 p.rri. and 6 a.m. to be paid' for at ordinary rates. Timo worked on Sunday as part of ordinary working week to lie paid for at ordinary rates. Double rate of payment on Sovereign’s Birthday, Labor Day. Good Friday, and Christmas Day to be. regarded as sufficient remuneration. That the practice of adding to the annual leave to he discontinued. The special allowance paid !o .horsedrivers engaged in shunting duties to be 'discontinued.
The maximum proportion of apprentices to journeymen in workshops to bo increased.
