Sixty thousands persons witnessed tlie accident at the rodeo contests on Saturday when a steer broke its leg, and immediately commenced hooting and hissing. Directly the cowboys realised the position a- pistol shot rang out and the steer dropped dead. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty, to Animals is applying for a summons in connection with the matter, and telegraphed the Premier protesting against a continuance' of the performances. Mr. Cochran announced that steer-roping would be discontinued, but will be continued privately, till the championship is settled, in order to keep faith with the cowboys.
