COWBOYS’ CONTEST.
TO BE- DECIDED WITHOUT PUBLIC AUDIENCES, (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) ! LONDON, June 16. ~ As eighty cowboys have entered the* steer roping, the contest will be decided at. Wembley Stadium in the mornings without public audiences. AN UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received June 17, 1 p.m.) LONDON. June 16. Sixty thousands persons witnessed tlie accident at the rodeo contests on Saturday when a steer broke its leg, and immediately commenced hooting and hissing. Directly the cowboys realised the position a- pistol shot rang out and the steer dropped dead. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty, to Animals is applying for a summons in connection with the matter, and telegraphed the Premier protesting against a continuance' of the performances. Mr. Cochran announced that steer-roping would be discontinued, but will be continued privately, till the championship is settled, in order to keep faith with the cowboys.
