CAR PLUNGES INTO RIVER
GALLANT RESCUES.
BRISBANE, May 26. A tragedy nearly occurred at, Coomera Ferry on Friday. The stationmaster at Timgoora, Mr. Gordon Bell, while travelling to Southport with his family, stopped hits motor car on the top of the* hill overlooking the ferry, and left, the vehicle. Komecne accidentally stood on the selfstarter. The car", which, apparently was not declutched, ran down the hill, clashed on to the ferry, and after crashing through the outside and it plunged into, the water. The car floated if or a few seconds, and Mr. Jim, Whally, who was on a boat, rowed to the. vehicle and: tore off the hood. Mr?. Bell was thus able to ernw'l out, and Mr. Bell rescued two of his children.
The balby, aged 18 montlils, was then seen under the cnU. of tho ferry-punt. Whally dived in, and rescued the child, which is not considered to be in a fieriour condition. The other occupants suffered from shock, but were otherwise uninjured.
