LONDON WOOL SALES.
STRONG COMPETITION. GOOD DEMAND FOR ALL KINDS AT LATE RATES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received (May 7, 2.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. The wool Bales have opened. Competition is firm at late rates. The Bank of New Zealand advises receipt of /the following cable from London : “The wool sales have opened. There was strong competition and a large attendance of buyers. There is 'a good damatad 1 for all kinds of wool. Compared with the close of last series the prices for .practically all descriptions are unchanged.” (Received May 7, 3 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. At the wool sales there was a verfy miscellaneous unattractive selection, including numerous speculators’ lots, whereon high reserves were placed. Many of tlTe.se were withdrawn as the sales proceeded. Consequently buyers became hesitant. The general tone was mot. equal to that at Liverpool, but the prices for both merinos and crossbreds were generally fairly well maintained at. the last London closing raltes. For slipeis and .scoured:) there was a strong market at full late London rates. New Zealand clips included, Longhorn, 37*1, GEM. 35i,d, WFM, lambs. 36id.
