TAXATION COMMISSION.
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. The Taxation Commission finished its sittings licp’e to-day. Mr. R,.'Morton, sheepfnrmer, of Taitapu, said that the land tax, as a class tax, was an evil example of the capital tax levied, on the primary industry of the country. Th© remedy, if capital was to be taxed, was in a property tax, which would be levied on all property. Mr. E. Hay, sheepfnrmer, Pigeon Bay, said, that he was also opposed to a land tax. It would be the best day for Now Zealand when that tax was wiped out. H e said the land would be better looked after and better improved. He contended that it would he 'much fairer to tax farmers on their incomes.
