A launch missing from Titirangi since Sunday was picked up yesterday in Cook Strait by the steamer Comma, and the whole party have returned safely to Titirangi. An application by the New Zealand Federated Plumbers and Gas Fitters’ Industrial Association of Workers for a Dominion award! was before the Conciliation Council to-day. Applications for exemption were made on behalf of the Christchurch and Wellington Gas Companies, New Zealand Freezing Companies and Wellington Harbor Board, and after argument were referred to the Court. It was urged: by the union that gas companies were in competition with ordinary employers, and what was-wanted was to be able to call the men out after hours and pay them ordinary rates, while in such circumstances an ordinary employer would be required to pay overtime. Freezing companies were also at limes in competition with other employers. At (he Supremo Court, Arllnir Henry Archer was found not guilty on a charge of carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of Hi.
